Dried beef is not just jerky - drying of highly seasoned meat is a method of preserving valuable meat snacks for a long time known in many traditional communities - one of them is biltong, that is derived from Africa marinated in vinegar and spices, and then dried lean beef - is is an excellent source of protein, a delicious and filling snack.

Biltong contains over 53% of protein with only 5g of fat and 3g of carbohydrates - this is a valuable, delicious, filling snack that does not require refrigeration, is light and concentrated and you can have it with you at home, on training or on the road for work.

How biltong differs from jerky and other types of dried beef

Biltong is fundamentally different from the popular jerky beef in the USA:

  • beef beef jerky is often smoked, beef biltong never smokes, it's just dried, marinated meat
  • the biltong meat is thickly cut, usually in slices 2.5 cm thick and even thicker; beef on beef jerky is cut more
  • beef jerky is dried only after salting, and meat for beef biltong is additionally marinated in vinegar and spices - thanks to this biltong is more brittle and less salty
  • biltong beef usually has a much lower sodium content
  • biltong has many times less carbohydrates (about 4%) and much more protein (about 50%)
