Before the 7up version without calories and without sugar the world got to know the lemon-lime drink sweetened with sugar and enriched with ... lithium. In 1929, after 2 years of testing a dozen formulas, in a very unfortunate moment because 2 weeks before Black Thursday and the outbreak of the first big global crisis Charles Leiper Grigg from the then Howdy Corporation, which sells the popular orange orange Howdy Orange has released for the past 10 years. The beverage market named "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime" - shortened to much more catchy marketing "7up" the name was not accidental and every member had its justification; Nota bene, in the following decades the original name of 7upa won several times the contests for the worst name of carbonated drink ever :) Interestingly, originally 7up had a golden-caramel, a rather dark color, which did not necessarily go hand in hand with his lime taste. It was only in later years that dyes were dispensed with a crystal clear drink known today. Going back to the meaning of the name: the first item, or "Bib-Label" simply means writing a large, paper label labeled to the front of the bottle. The real sensation is the second part of the name, ie "Lithiated", or simply "containing lithium" - for more than 20 years, until 1950, used in the 7Up stabilizer was a substance that lends the medical substance lithium citrate through the content of which 7up was advertised as a drug A hangover and also a drug for stomach disorders in children.

There are several theories about why the cult of the Seven Sisters was named just as it was - and according to one of the '7' theories were supposed to refer to the drink's effect - this would have been ph 7 - but the theory was simply overturned, because like other citrus Carbonated drinks 7UP is about 3.7. Much more likely seems to be the second theory, according to which the number refers to the original number of components (1. carbonated water, 2. sugar, 3. citric acid, 4. lithium citrate, 5. sodium citrate, 6. lemon essence, The word 'up' refers to the upbeat bubbles of the carbonated beverage, as evidenced by the branding slogans of the 40s. Already at that time, after only ten years of existence, 7up was the third most popular carbonated beverage in the world, and its position was spurred only by the appearance (rather accidental) lime drink of the biggest competitor, Sprite from the Coca Cola Company stable - competition between brands was so strong That in the 1960s, 7up was advertised under the two-part name "The Uncola" or simply "No-Cola".

The decades have passed, the composition of 7up has changed, but its taste has remained unchanged and fortunately today you can also enjoy its version without calories.
